Passionate L&D Nurse and Doula; who wants to help empower you, embrace your strength, and become parents.
L&D RN, 2008
How have I landed here? In this place? At this time? I always joke and say, "I don't know what I want to be when I grow up." Not knowing has rung true until this time in my life. I am incredibly excited and inspired by this change. To better serve fellow humans on their journey to becoming parents.
I graduated in 2008 and began birth work at a smaller hospital in Labor and Delivery. I was lucky to be groomed by caring veteran nurses who helped shape me into what I consider a fantastic L&D nurse. (Toot, toot). I grew under their watchful eyes for four years, until I decided to spread my wings, stork wings, of course:) I became a traveling L&D nurse. I traveled the country, working at about 15 different hospitals over a seven-year span. In 2017, I moved back to the Triangle, bought a house, and took a "permanent job." I'm a nomad, or free-spirit if you will, so this was a commitment! As a nurse, I've been involved in the births of around 2,000 babies in my 13-year career. This year I finished my CAPPA Doula training.
Anyone giving birth deserves undivided attention, care, and support. I decided to start Labor Doula Company, LLC to walk in my truth and help empower women and people through the birthing process using education and support. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE being a labor and delivery nurse. Except now, I want to be fully present as birth support, without a nurse's tasks. Doulas inspire me; I have met, learned from, and admired them from my nurse role. I want to foster the doula part of me to improve birthing outcomes based on maternal intuition, education, and allowing women and birthing people to reclaim control over their birth. To teach and empower parents to be fully involved in decision-making, and I can only hope to be a small part of your story.
